Bustar Maitar Soundbite English
Greenpeace campaigner Bustar Maitar soundbite in front of illegally logged wood by Sinar Mas. This material was shot following a violent conflict between villagers and the authorities which operated on behalf of the palm oil industry. 76 residents were arrested during the protests in December 2008. Two children were killed and hundreds of houses destroyed. The villagers have been engaged in a land dispute with pulpwood supplier PT Arara Abadi since the forestry ministry awarded the company rights to develop the area in 1996. Residents opposed to Arara taking over the land and some 1,300 of them continue to occupy the site. Amnesty International had urged Indonesia in December to investigate the crackdown.
