Whaling Fleet in Operation
Greenpeace witnesses the killing of whales in the Southern Ocean by the Yushin Maru No. 2 and the Kyo Maru No.1 ships of the Japanese whaling fleet, and the transfer of the whales to the Nisshin Maru factory ship. The whalers flense their catch while holding signs reading "Science based lethal research" and "Greenpeace misleads the public". Greenpeace is in the Southern Ocean to stop Japan's annual 'scientific' whale hunt. This year the Fisheries Agency of Japan has more than doubled its planned catch of minke whales to 935 and added 10 endangered fin whales which are the second largest creatures on earth after blue whales.
