Mexico REDD Forest Feature
Feature story backgrounder to show the difference in forest management surrounding discussions at COP16. The feature shows that in spite of the Mexican government reports that deforestation rates are rapidly decreasing, independent information show that Mexico looses almost half a million hectares of forests every year. They are using solutions such as reforestation, plantations and naturally protected areas managed by the government but in an area such as the Central Yucatan peninsula it can be clearly seen that there is a clear difference in the success of forest management when comparing the manner in which the indigenous population are doing it and the government.
