Lucky Maisane lives in eMalahleni (Witbank), and is a passionate environmental justice activist. He works for an organisation called ‘Outrageous Courage’, which brings together young people from his community and functions “to produce solutions, from air quality
to social challenges like unemployment.
“I have sinus problems, so does my younger sister. In fact, everyone from around here often complains of sinusitis. Our main challenge here in Witbank is public health, government never explains why we have this peculiar sinus problem…Our water quality is very bad.
After drinking it we get sick, we buy bottled water for drinking and only use tap water for domestic use like washing [and] bathing. The bottled water is very expensive for us.”
