Kolin Illegally Destroys Olive Grove for Coal Expansion in Turkey
Local people from Yirca village show evidence of almost 6,000 trees illegally bulldozed to make way for a proposed Kolin Group coal power planet.
Kolin’s project initially bypassed a law protecting olive groves restricting industrial development within three km of the trees with an “urgent expropriation” decision taken by the government. A Turkish court has since suspended the government decision.

Kolin Illegally Destroys Olive Grove for Coal Expansion in Turkey
Activists deliver saplings to replace some 6,000 olive trees illegally bulldozed by the Kolin Group in Yirca village, Soma District. The activists are working in solidarity with the villagers who resisted the state's efforts to expropriate their land so that Kolin could build a coal power plant. More than 5000 trees were illegally cut barely three weeks after brutal attacks on Turkish villagers and Greenpeace Mediterranean activists who tried to protect the olive grove from being unlawfully razed for a proposed Kolin Group coal power plant.
