Action on Brent Spar 1st and 2nd Occupations
Greenpeace activists scaled and took up residence on the Brent Spar, a disused oil platform to stop its owner, Shell, from dumping the rusting hulk and its highly toxic contents to the sea bed. On the 13th day of occupation a Shell helicopter landed on the Brent Spar with two sheriffs from Aberdeen (wearing Shell survival suits) carrying a legal injunction. The injunction was read out to the activists, the sheriffs than spent a night on the platform as the guests of Greenpeace. North Sea
