Thermal Images of Castor in Valognes
Thermographic images showing in 'red' the heat emitted by nuclear waste transport containers in the railway station of Valognes, bound for storage in Gorleben, Germany. The CASTOR (Cask for Storage and Transport of Radioactive material) is a train convoy carrying eleven 100-tonne containers of radioactive waste. Measurements of these containers show that the radioactivity in each one is higher than what was released at Chernobyl in 1986 - this makes the CASTOR transport effectively a Chernobyl on wheels.
