Anti-Nuclear Demonstration in Germany
Greenpeace International Executive Director Kumi Naidoo addresses protesters at the anti-nuclear demonstration. Greenpeace, groups and citizens oppose the transportation of CASTOR rail containers of reprocessed German nuclear waste from the La Hague reprocessing plant in France to the Gorleben interim storage facility in Germany. The CASTOR (Cask for Storage and Transport of Radioactive material) is a train convoy carrying eleven 100-tonne containers of radioactive waste. Measurements of these containers show that the radioactivity in each one is higher than what was released at Chernobyl in 1986 - this makes the CASTOR transport effectively a Chernobyl on wheels.
