Burning Oil from Oil Rig Disaster in the Gulf of Mexico
The Q4000 multi-purpose oil field intervention vessel, left center, and the drillship the Discoverer Explorer, center, burn off material from the Deepwater Horizon wellhead near the disaster site. As many as 45 support ships are assigned to the area working to contain the leaking oil. The BP leased oil Deepwater Horizon platform exploded on April 20 and sank after burning.
