A pelican sits covered with oil from the Deepwater Horizon wellhead in Barataria Bay. The heavier oil has moved into the bay covering more wildlife everyday. The BP leased Deepwater Horizon oil platform exploded April 20 and sank after burning, leaking record amounts of crude oil from the broken pipeline into the sea.

Aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon oil platform disaster. The BP (British Petroleum) leased oil platform exploded on April 20 and sank after burning, leaking an estimate of more than 210,000 gallons of crude oil per day from the broken pipeline to the sea. Eleven workers died during the disaster.
