Brown Pelicans in Louisiana
Brown pelicans sit along the shoreline in front of oil containment booms at the North end of the Chandeleur Island in the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana. The Deepwater Horizon, a BP leased oil platform, exploded April 20 and sank after burning. It has continued to spill large amounts of oil into the Gulf of Mexico nearly a month since the disaster struck. The oil continues to move closer to the shoreline threatening the marine life around the gulf.
