Ecological Farm in Valence
Ecological farmer Guillaume Plantier, 37, with his GPS system in his tractor. Guillaume explains -
"There are two efficient GPS systems to date, John Deer and Trimble.
Mine is Trimble because when I started with GPS 6 years ago, theirs were the only ones to fit with New Holland tractors.
I gave it the best accuracy, with more or less 2cm errors admit from one year to another. This accuracy is called RTK (real time kinematic)
With this system "autopilot rtk", the tractor follows the line nearly like a train, and so I can concentrate on the crop, the earth, the many different flowers growing around and which can inform me on the health level of the ground! (cf. Gerard Ducerf, ethnosociologist), and it is particularly interesting when sowing, because as it is very straight, the weeding is much easier.
It also allows you to put before sowing a bit a ecological droppings in the further line of corn for example. That way the crop goes fast and above all goes faster than other plants!"
"Ecological farming is a way for me to make a productive and sustainable agriculture while respecting other humans and other living organisms.
If we are to compare chemical with organic farming, I would say that one tries to control the other to handle.
Ecological farming is mainly depending on weather and soil aptitudes to feed and drink plants and micro-organisms. We are powerless regarding weather issues, nevertheless we can work hard, hand in hand with worms (and so many other species of insect, mushrooms or bacterias), to give the best conditions to the seeds we sow. By cultivating different kinds of plants between two crops and incorporating it in the top soil manure compost and few droppings (never more than 15 cm deep), we can help the soil to improve (light but a bit rough in case of storms!!).
As a past teacher of mine said, the most difficult is to find the balance but what is even more difficult is to stay balanced!
I would love so much that many other farmers can discover the joy to feel like if you just do right or at least that you are on the good way. The joy to be sure that you give only food to our child and not a kind a cocktail of chemicals, the joy to be sure not to poison yourself each time you touch a machine or a seed!
For ecological farming is the way to preserve health, nature and to create social emulation. I just note that ecological farming brings a consistent and good quality food but also good moral values that could help build a better future."
