Greenpeace Energy Solution Project in Indonesia - English Version
In 2013 Greenpeace staged a creative action against fossil fuels during a Champions League match of FK Austria Wien in Vienna, Austria.
This triggered a partnership between the Football Club Social Alliance, an association of top European football clubs, Greenpeace CEE and Greenpeace Indonesia. The Alliance provides training to young Indonesian coaches and teachers on socially relevant content, e.g. importance of education, HIV/AIDS. As part of this training, Greenpeace contributes an environmental awareness and renewable energy capacity building workshop for 34 hand-picked young men and women from all parts of the country.
Specifically, Indonesia's role as the world's largest coal exporter, the unequal electrification rate of Indonesia's provinces and its renewable energy potential are highlighted. In this “Train the trainer” programme, Greenpeace reaches out to key Indonesian multipliers who have been empowered to share their knowledge and experience of renewable energy with their diverse communities - from Jakarta to Papua and from Sulawesi to Maluku.
Part of the programme is a hands-on experience to jointly install a solar PV system in the indigenous community of Ciptagelar, West Java. The eight solar home systems (800 Watt/ peak) are now providing the school with uninterrupted electricity. While powering the newly acquired computers, our installation will instantly improve the education for the 150 pupils.
