Senior Global Energy Campaigner Kendra Ulrich on Asakaze in Japan
Kendra Ulrich, Senior Global Energy campaigner Greenpeace Japan launching the ROV from Asakaze, a Japanese research vessel chartered by Greenpeace Japan. The organisation is doing radiation survey work off shore of Fukushima Daiichi, doing sea bed survey and sampling of marine sediment with the Rainbow Warrior acting as a campaign support ship. A gamma ray spectrometer is used to measure the distribution of radioactivity discharged from the plant, and sampling and the under water videos /stills documentation are conducted by a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). All samples will be sealed up before transport to independent laboratories in Japan and France.

On occasion of the 5th anniversary of the nuclear accident in Fukushima, Greenpeace carries out an underwater research tour monitoring the radiation impacts on the underwater life. Greenpeace nuclear experts work with a ROV (remotely operated vehicle), an under water camera and special testing equipment.
