Portland Blockade of Shell's Ice Breaker, Fennica - Clipreel 5
Aerial Footage: Activist climbers hang under the St. Johns Bridge over the Willamette River to block the Shell leased icebreaker MSV Fennica. The vessel tore a hole in its hull enroute to the Chukchi Sea in the Alaskan Arctic and was brought to Portland for repair. The climbers, have rappelled off the St. Johns Bridge and blocked Shell's Arctic icebreaking vessel, the MSV Fennica, as it attempted to leave Portland, Oregon. The climbers are currently preventing the ship from passing underneath the bridge on its way to meet Shell’s drilling fleet. The climbers have enough supplies to last for several days. According to the latest federal permit, the Fennica must be at Shell’s drill site before Shell can reapply for federal approval to drill deep enough for oil in the Chukchi Sea.
