Rainbow Warrior in Argostoli, Greece "United against Oil Drilling" (B-Roll)
The Greek leg of the United for Climate European ship tour has arrived at its second port in Greece, the Ionian island of Kefalonia, on the 16th June. The purpose of the tour in Greece is to support local communities that are affected by plans for hydrocarbon (HC) explorations, to strengthen local initiatives and help them unite under a national climate movement umbrella. It’s essential for all elements of society to rise up and unite demanding climate action by the government. The tour will use this opportunity to suggest real and sustainable energy solutions in the form of collective energy schemes, that promote clean energy and mass participation of the society according to the principles of energy democracy. The highlight of the stop at Kefalonia was the welcome of the locals in the form of a flotilla of 60 sailing boats, kayaks, canoes, and other vessels, just outside the port of Argostoli. From the Rainbow Warrior, a big floating banner was deployed, with an image clearly saying that oil exploration and drilling is contributing to the climate crisis we are facing. Next stop of the Rainbow Warrior is the city of Patras on the 18th and 19th June and the island of Corfu on the 21st and 22nd June.
