Action to Confront ‘Floating Gas Station’ in the High Seas
Activists with Greenpeace Andino confront a Panama-flagged tanker responsible for ‘bunkering’ (refueling) fishing vessels. More than 400 fishing ships operate in these largely lawless waters which are home to endangered species. Most of the vessels in the region depend on such tankers and cargo ‘reefers’ to fish continuously throughout the year without returning to port.
The Greenpeace ship Esperanza is investigating one of the world’s hotspots for unregulated industrial fishing, international waters of the Southwest Atlantic.
