Sharks at Fishing Port in Thailand
Juvenile sharks on sale at the public fishing port in Ranong, southern Thailand. Thai gillnetters would catch a variety of fish from the Saya de Malha Bank, including a reported 50% bycatch of sharks. The transfer of tuna, tuna-like species and sharks onto reefers through transshipment at sea is prohibited by the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC).
