Logging in Torråsen
Greenpeace stumbles on logging operations while conducting field research in the forest of Torråsen, in the north-west of Sweden. The boreal forest is being logged by owner, Bergvik Skog AB, despite having been identified by authorities as possessing high conservation value and deserving of protection. The area is one example of the on-going destruction rolling out throughout the Great Northern forests globally, with intact and high conservation value forests disappearing in Canada, Russia, Scandinavia and Finland. Greenpeace demands that governments fulfill their obligations under the Convention on Biological Diversity to protect forests that can sustain biodiversity, and that forestry companies refrain from logging in these areas meanwhile.
