Martha pays her regular monthly charge of 40 zar to the installers as a fee, which she says is half of what she spent on paraffin and kerosene. Martha has been living with her family for 9 years in Polokwane. She says it has always been difficult for her to make ends meet. Buying paraffin and kerosene was very expensive and has got more expensive over the years. She used to spend more than 100 zar a month just for that. Since solar came to the community, they not only have lights but also radios and even television. Solar power is really affordable and she recommends it to everyone.
