Remotely Operated Vehicle Deployment in Svalbard
Grant Oakes (right), Bosun/Boatswain on the Arctic Sunrise, coordinates the retrieval of the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) in the Barents Sea. The device was used to film the seabed around the coast of Svalbard. Most of the fishing vessels operating in the area are using bottom trawl, pulling huge nets to scoop up fish, a practice which is damaging to the seabed and all the creatures that live here.
