Darya Zakhanchuk Portrait - Chernobyl Victims Documentation (Ukraine and Belarus)
Darya Zakhanchuk (6), has a heart disorder. Hospital director Ivachlav Tchaikovsky says the number of congenital diseases has more than quadrupled since 1985 and that there is an especially high incidence of heart diseases seldomly diagnosed before Chernobyl. The Chernobyl’s Childrens Project in Belarus states more than 7000 children are waiting for a heart operation. Chernobyl in the Ukraine became the site of the most infamous nuclear disaster accident of all. In 1986 the explosion of the nuclear reactor affected the lives of millions in Western Russia, Belarus and the Ukraine. Both countries have plans to build new reactors to export energy to Europe.
