Landslide on Rice Terraces in Northern Philippines
Landslide on rice terraces. Caused by Typhoon Mangkhut, which continues to threaten homes, lives and livelihoods in Brgy. Kinakin, Banaue, Ifugao province, in the Northern part of the Philippines. Climate impacts on traditions and cultural heritage, such as on the country’s rice terraces, are last to be assessed, if at all.
Banaue Rice Terraces are terraces that were carved into the mountains of Ifugao in the Philippines by the ancestors of the indigenous people. It is commonly thought that the terraces were built with minimal equipment, largely by hand.
