Resista Banner in front of the White House in Washington D.C.
Activists display "Resista" (Resist in Portuguese) banner in front of the White House in response to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro's first visit to the US. Similar to how Resist became a phrase to embody the attacks on the environment and civil rights from the Trump administration, Resista has been used by Brazilian activists as a call to action against the Brazilian Government's attack on civil rights, climate, natural eco-systems, and indigenous peoples' rights critical to protecting climate-critical forests and other ecosystems. Jair Bolsonaro's administration has marked a new extreme in rhetoric and actions against Indigenous Peoples, LGBT, People of Color, workers' rights, democracy, justice, environment, and science.
