The Rialto Bridge, the oldest and probably the most famous of the four bridges crossing the Grand Canal in Venice, gives shelter to tourists whilst waiting for the water level to recede. However, river buses continue public transport service despite the difficulty, alighting passengers who are forced to wheel luggage through water.
