Forest Fires in Brazilian Amazon
At the end of the undercurrent fire season in the Amazon Forest, Greenpeace documents the destruction left by forest fires in the region between the Brazilian states of Amazonas, Acre and Rondônia.
Despite its wide-known importance in conserving socio-biodiversity and its essential role in maintaining world climate conditions, the Amazon forest still presents fire spots and vast areas of accumulated ashes. Forest fires pose a threat to people, animals and contribute to increasing greenhouse gas emissions. In 2018, in spite of its decrease in absolute numbers, fire spots increased in the most deforested states.
