Woman Living near Bolettesminde Factory Farm, Denmark
Inge Praestegaard, aged 61, and her husband Lars Henriksen, aged 63, live on their own small ecological farm neighbouring the Bolettesminde pig factory farm near the village of Bukkerup, around 60 kilometers west of Copenhagen. The couple has been living in their home for 24 years.
Before opening the windows and airing the house in the morning, Inge always checks the windmills she sees outside her kitchen window. If the wind blows from the factory farm, windows must stay closed, she explained during interviews with Greenpeace Nordic in Denmark. Inge said: “When the wind blows from the South, the smell is awful. It is not just the manure smell - it is a rotten smell coming from ventilating the pens.”
