Woman Living near Factory Farms in Tingerup, Denmark
Annette Palshoej, aged 75, has been living for 30 years right in between the three pig factory farms Edelgundegaard, Vandvaerksgaarden and Bolettesminde. Since then, according to her, the smell has constantly worsened and is especially severe, when the manure is spread or when the stables are being ventilated. Her life, she reported to Greenpeace Nordic in Denmark, is severely affected by the presence of the farm. Sometimes the smell is so bad, that it gives Annette a bad migraine. When the headache is too intense, she says, the only solution for her is to take strong medication with equally strong side effects. On the photo we see Annette fetching her medication.
Annette said: “When the smell is bad I can hardly breathe and I have to go inside. Everything on and around the house is green from algae. I never dry clothes outside, and every year my roof needs to get a special algae-treatment. It is awful.”
“I have given up on selling the house. It is impossible to sell.”
