Mr Xia is one of the few "official" fishermen in Shanghai with a fishing license. A decade ago, there were hundreds of fishermen in Luchaogang village, Nanhui. With the development of urbanisation and land reclamation as well as the deteriorating environment of the coastal wetland, the original “fishing village” like it was since ancient times, has completely changed. Very few fishermen have stayed behind.
