2017 Climate Camp in Rhineland, Germany
Portrait of Greenpeace Germany's energy campaigner Karsten Smid at the 2017 climate camp near the town of Erkelenz in North Rhine-Westphalia with the Degrowth Summer School. The camp runs from August 18 to 29.
Greenpeace's Planet Earth First flag.
The Climate Camp has taken place in Rhineland since 2010, in the lignite mining area. This coal field is the biggest emitter of carbon dioxide in all of Europe. Still people are forced to resettle and villages and landscapes are destroyed, all for coal mining.
