Photo shows a large area used for open burning in Saraburi Province, around a hundred kilometers northeast of Bangkok. Open burning causes severe air pollution, which is a serious health threat, but it remains an annual practice in provinces, particularly during the dry season.

Greenpeace is calling upon the Pollution Control Department to impose stricter standards on particulate matter in the country’s Air Quality Index and to monitor and enforce preventive measures on PM 2.5 in order to protect public health.
