Researchers and the Greenpeace team seek for more information on this unique biome. The Greenpeace ship Esperanza is carrying on board a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV, model Seaeye Cougar XT) to take pictures and videos, and also collect samples of the Amazon Reef. The ROVs can dive to a depth of 2,000 meters, which grants the expedition a great flexibility to study the ecosystem. Inside the ship, large screens broadcast the images captured in real time to the scientists and crew.
