Off Copacabana Beach, Greenpeace activists float a mock fifty foot lifebelt bearing the message ‘S.O.S. Clima’ (S.O.S Climate). In the centre of the lifebelt is a representation of the earth. As a low-lying city, Rio de Janeiro is extremely vulnerable to rising ocean levels due to climate change. With this action, Greenpeace sends a direct message to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which assembles in Brussels on the same day.
