Protest Brown Coal Plant Voitsberg
Greenpeace and local people protest against the plans to reactivate the coal power plant ÖDK 3 in Voitsberg. Just in front of the town hall activists construct a tall chimney, from which visible smoke is coming out, to imitate the planned power plant. The yellow banner reads: "Herr Bürgermeister Meixner. Keine Dreckschleuder in Voitsberg. ", meaning: "Mr. Maire Meixner, no dirt sling in Voitsberg" and on the white sign you can see the words "Bezirk Voitsberg, Höchste Krebssterblichkeit!", in english: "County of Voitsberg, highest cancer mortality rate!". People are holding signs reading "Nein zu ÖDK 3"- "No to ÖDK 3" (the latter being the name of the plant). The coal power plant was shut down in 2006 because of lacking profitability. However, now the company „A-Tec Industries“ wants to re-activate it.
