Climate Banner on Church in Leoben, Austria
In cooperation with a climate campaign of the catholic church, Greenpeace hangs a banner of 150 square meters on the facade of the church in Leoben. The banner reads: „XI. Du sollst nicht zerstören deines Nächsten Klima“, in english: „XI. Thou shalt not destroy your neighbor‘s climate“, as an eleventh commandment, which is meant to call the federal government to finally become active regarding the Copenhagen climate summit. The negotiations have come to a stagnancy because the industrial nations like Austria until now have not been capable of resuming responsibility for climate change. The persons in the picture are priest Markus Plöbst with Greenpeace activists and members of the churchly climate campaign.
In original language:
Klimabanner Kirche Leoben

The negotiations have come to a stagnancy because the industrial nations like Austria until now have not been capable of resuming responsibility for climate change. In order to enable developing countries to adjust to the climate change impacts, industrial nations have to provide 110 billion Euros. This is the amount that would be needed yearly to get sea level rise, scarcity of drinking water and failure of crops under control. Also the participating priest of this action sees that it is now our turn to take over responsibility for the fact that our wealth has been increased on the cost of others and has contributed a great deal to climate change. However, the people most affected by climate change impacts are people in developing countries.
