Decimated Coral Forest in New Zealand
A decimated coral forest, which is the result of trawling, on New Zealand's Challenger Plateau. Image shows an old trawl net on the sea floor. Trawl nets are occasionally snagged on seamount features and remain on the seafloor. There is some scientific concern that whales diving for deep sea squid may become tangled in these forgotten nets.
