Politicians Board the Arctic Sunrise - Baltic Tour (Baltic Sea: 2006)
EU environmental commissioner Stavros Dimas and Estonian Environmental minister Villu Reiljan walk on-board the Greenpeace ship, Arctic Sunrise in the harbour of Paldiski.
Commissioner Stavros says: "I think what Greenpeace did was actually very important in filling the gaps in the implementation of European law."
On 19th August this year the Probo Koala unloaded a toxic waste shipment in the west African town of Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The shipment was so highly toxic that it killed seven people and poisoned another 44,000. Greenpeace calls on the Estonian government to detain the vessel and demands that the EU Commission and the member states ensures that the ship is held until a full criminal investigation is carried out. The Probo Koala has become a vital piece of evidence in the toxic investigation.
