Dead Brazilian Nut trees (Castanheiras) stand dead near Claudia in the land of the proposed Parque das Castanheiras. The Brazilian nut tree is a protected species under Brazilian law. During the dry season big sections of the rainforest are set on fire by farmers to be cleared for soy or cattle farming.
