Toxics Action European Headquarters in Belgium
Greenpeace activists simulated an oil disaster at the door of the European Headquarters in Brussels as European Ministers of Transport, Telecommunications and Energy met to discuss maritime safety. Volunteers dressed in bird costumes stained with black "oil" carried signs and banners that read: "Act Now!". Oil ran down the flags of the EU member states that were displayed by the activists. Five barrels of oil waste and residue brought from the "Prestige" oil disaster were discharged in front of the building. In the image, Transport Minister for Belgium Isabel Durand talking to the press. In the background, a Greenpeace banner that reads: "Act Now".
