Call for Re-opening of Whale Meat Investigation
An activist of Greenpeace Japan holds a sign reading 'International Whaling Corruption' (a play on words related to the International Whaling Commission, IWC). She stands outside the location where colleagues Junichi Sato and Jun Hoshikawa of Greenpeace Japan, and legal defence counsel Maiko Tagusari, submit an appeal to the Public Inquest Committee. The appeal requests that the official investigation into the whale meat embezzlement scandal exposed by Greenpeace in 2008 be re-opened. Compelling evidence undermining the official story has come to light during witness testimony in the trial of Sato and colleague Toru Suzuki, who face up to ten-years in prison for intercepting a box of embezzled whale meat in their effort to expose corruption in the whaling industry.
