Berg Calved from Helheim Glacier in Greenland
A berg calved from Helheim glacier on south east Greenland, floats in Sermilik Fjord. The blue stripe is denser ice than the white ice that surrounds it, possibly made by meltwater that has frozen quickly after pooling in a crevasse when the berg was part of the glacier. The Arctic Sunrise and her crew are facilitating the field work of oceanographers from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, in order to calculate the impact of ocean warming on east Greenland's outlet glaciers.
