Forest Crime Banner Action
Greenpeace activists occupy an area in 1,645 hectares of the Amazon that has been illegally deforested. A huge 2,500 square meter banner with the message “100% forest crime” is unfurled in the area to draw attention to the issue. The banner is being destroyed by the person responsible for the crime, José Donizetti Pires de Oliveira who is President of the Agricultural Producers Association in Santarem and blamed by the Brazilian Environmental Agency IBAMA for this illegal deforestation which is the largest in the Santarem region in the last seven years. Donizetti destroys the banner by using a large vehicle to drive through and tear it up.
