Amazon Deforestation in Brazil
View from above on a flight from Manaus to Santarem. This is an illegally logged area spanning 1645 hectares which has been logged to plant soy. The expansion of soya plantations in the Amazon is the leading cause of deforestation in the region as huge areas are cleared to meet agricultural demand. Greenpeace document a number of areas in the Amazon, looking at people, natural wildlife and the impact that the soya industry is having on the rainforest landscape.
