Kulluk Rig Assessment off Kodiak Island
The Shell drill rig Kulluk floats in Kodiak Island's Kiliuda Bay in Alaska on January 7, 2013 as salvage teams conduct an in-depth assessment of its seaworthiness. The Kulluk, which grounded on Sitkalidak Island near Kodiak on New Year's Eve, was refloated late January 6 and taken to Kiliuda Bay for repairs and a survey. The Kulluk is being kept in place by the anchor handing ship Aiviq and the tugboats Alert, Corbin Foss, Lauren Foss and Ocean Wave. Supporting the effort are the ships Nanuq, Perserverence, Warrior and the Coast Guard cutter Alex Haley.
