Protest against Castor Transport in France
Environmental organisation Greenpeace joins the protests against the transport of nuclear waste from France to Germany as the train carrying the material leaves Valognes. The cargo is expected to arrive in Dannenberg, Germany on the evening of November 8th. The CASTOR (Cask for Storage and Transport of Radioactive material) is a train convoy carrying eleven 100-tonne containers of radioactive waste. Measurements of these containers show that the radioactivity in each one is higher than what was released at Chernobyl in 1986 - this makes the CASTOR transport effectively a Chernobyl on wheels. Yannick Rousselet, Greenpeace Nuclear campaigner for France, Greenpeace International Executive Director Kumi Naidoo and Director of Greenpeace France, Pascal Husting hold a banner. Includes soundbite from Director of Greenpeace France, Pascal Husting.
