Rainbow Warrior Bombing - Web Video
Fernando Pereira, a Portugese photographer and father, was killed by the French bombing of the Rainbow Warrior in Auckland harbour on July 10, 1985. Fernando was a member of the crew, and one of 12 people on board, when two bombs, planted by French agents, exploded, causing the ship to sink at its berth. Following the first blast, Fernando called out that he was going below to get his cameras. He was knocked unconscious in his cabin by the second blast, and drowned. At the time, Fernando had two young children. In 2005, his daughter Marelle participated in a ceremony, in New Zealand, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the bombing.
