Rainbow Warrior Bombing - Web Video
The public rallied to support Greenpeace following the bombing of the Rainbow Warrior in Auckland in 1985. “You can’t sink a rainbow” became the catch-phrase of the time. In 1995 the Rainbow Warrior II headed to Moruroa with a huge flotilla when France announced it was resuming nuclear testing amidst a worldwide outcry. French commandos boarded the ship, smashed equipment and seized the vessel. Greenpeace activists were arrested, interrogated and deported. The flotilla continued the protest, but the end was in sight. A few months later, France finally responded to international outrage and stopped its nuclear testing programme.
