Fisheries Enforcement Team on Longliner
Members of the Mozambican fisheries enforcement team inspect the Japanese longliner, Fukuseki Maru No 27, for shark fin. Fishing vessels that have the right to fish in Mozambican waters are not permitted to have fins that total more than 5% of the weight of sharks onboard. Also, all species of thresher sharks (Family Alopiidae) are prohibited to be brought onboard. Greenpeace is observing fishing activities in the Indian Ocean where poor management has left many stocks over exploited including albacore tuna and many sharks.
