Climate Rescue Station in Borobudur
A view of the Greenpeace Climate Rescue Station with the Borobudur temple in the background.
The Borobudur temple is the world's largest Buddhist monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Magelang, Central Java. The surrounding park is set to showcase Indonesia's renewable energy potential, with the installation of solar-powered park lights. The project, 'Solarising Borobodur' is initiated by Greenpeace, with the Borobudur Conservation Agency (Balai Konservasi Borobudur), to urge the Indonesian government to implement a massive uptake of renewable energy (RE) sources and to decrease dependence on dirty fossil fuels such as coal. The solar-powered lighting system will be switched on in a week time.
