Some 70 volunteers demonstrate their opposition to deep sea oil drilling off New Zealand's coast at a 'Hands Across the Sand' event at New Brighton beach, Christchurch. Similar events were held at the same time in Raglan, Nelson and Dunedin. The New Zealand Government is actively encouraging exploration for deep sea oil.
